Baur’s Listening Lounge kicks off the month of August with a week of women in music showcases on their intimate stage. Natalie Cressman, Megan Burtt, Adzel Duo and Amy Speace will in turn perform for Baur’s listeners thanks to the Music Appreciation Society, a nonprofit which has been bringing many talented music makers to Denver, such as New Orleans’ The Revelers, Bethany and Rufus, and other international talents who work in many different musical genres.
Tonight, singer and trombonist Natalie Cressman will perform, as her tour makes a stop in Denver. Be prepared to hear tunes that tell intoxicating stories set to the textures of an indie rock feel which is marked by the sounds of modern jazz. She performs tonight in support of her new album "Turn the Sea." For more information about the artist, check out this interview conducted by Denver’s jazz station, KUVO.
On Monday, Aug. 3, Baur's hosts a free event at 7:30 p.m. with Megan Burtt who will be previewing songs from her new CD, "Ain't It Love." “What distinguishes Megan Burtt as a folk/pop songstress,” says James Kenly of Horizons Management, “is her pursuit of honesty. Both in her performance and her writing, it is evident that she is digging well past the surface to understand the ebbs and flows of the most basic human emotions.” To learn more about Burtt, find her on her website.
Another featured act this week brings the AdZel Duo to Baur’s stage Aug. 7. The clarinet duo of ladies, Stephanie Zelnick and Miriam Adam, promises to fully enrapture Baur’s audiences with music that explores cultural and musical dialogues and highlights a banding together of both women’s cultural heritages.
On Aug. 9, singer-songwriter Amy Speace will perform an acoustic set of lyrical folk songs. She has been making appearances at important venues throughout the country like NPR and has been impressing the critics. Her clear voice and musical work have been been described as timeless and full of grace. She is currently on tour in support of her new album "That Kind Of Girl."
All of these shows begin at 8 p. m. except for the free show with Megan Burtt. For more information and to get tickets for upcoming shows, visit Baur’s website. To stay abreast of current events, connect with Baur’s and the Music Appreciation Society on Twitter and on Facebook.
